Fireworks

As the days get shorter and the nights get longer, our skies are soon to become filled with the whoosh bangs of another fireworks’ “season”. What used to be one night, can now potentially go on for months, and while the displays can be enjoyable it can be a very stressful time for some pets and their owners!

So, what can you do to help?

Keep your pet inside when fireworks are being let off

Act normal and stay calm
Don’t overfuss your pet, this can sometimes inadvertently reinforce their “scared” behaviour
Never tell your pet off for being scared
Make a cosy “den” so your pet has a safe place to hide
Close the curtains and shut windows
Put on the television or radio to drown out the bangs

In addition to these techniques there are several products to help alleviate pet stress. We no longer sedate animals for firework fear as research suggests this can have quite a negative effect, but find these supplements instead useful to reduce stress levels and help your pet cope this time of year.
